Thank you scarf

TS collage 3_Fotor lomo

Thank you Scarf!

I love to make gift for friends and family rather than just buying something from shops, and when I do I try to buy local. Of course there is not always time for it but I try to make time to create something special with lots of love and care.

This time I needed to make a gift for my very good friend N… she is amazing woman – strong, warm, caring, giving, great mother and makes most amazing food (I always over eat in her house coz its tastes so good).

She helped me a lot during busy months of May and I wanted to thank her for all that she done for me and my boys.

I ordered yarn and decided to make a lacy scarf and after I couldn’t choose pattern on the web… I came up with my own pattern. First I showed  scarf to girls from Get hooked class … they loved it and ask to share pattern. So it’s been written and then tested (but if you find mistakes please let me know).

P.S. –  my friend love her new scarf!!

And now I’m sharing it with you… I’m sure you have someone special in your life … daughter, sister, mother, aunt, girlfriend… that you would like to make this scarf and say – Thank you for been part of my life xx … Oh dear! It sounds like TV ad)))) … at least I’m not trying to sell you stuff))))

Enjoy!

You will need

  • 3  balls of Eco cotton (50gr) by Nurturing fibers (Bordeaux) or other yarn of your choice in DK;
  • 3.5 or 4 mm hook –size of your hook depending on your tension. I used 4mm;
  • tapestry needle
  •  scissor

Abbreviation

This pattern uses American Standard Abbreviations

  • ch – chain;
  • sc – single crochet;
  • dc – double crochet;

  • sl.st. – slip stitch;
  • rep – repeat;

Pattern:

Chain 37.

1 round – 1 ch, 1sc in to 2nd ch from hook, * 5ch, miss 3 ch, 1sc * – rep *-* 9 times.

2 round – 7 ch, *1sc into 5ch space, 2 ch, 7dc into next 5ch space, 2ch, 1sc into next 5ch space, 5 ch* – rep *-* 2 times. Finish row with 1sc into next 5ch space, 2 ch, 7dc into next 5ch space, 2ch, 1sc into next 5ch space, 2ch, 1tr into last sc from previous row.

Now work repeating rows 2 – 5 to make desired lengths. 3 balls of eco-cotton was enough for 30 repeats in total, but it depends on your tension.

Crochet Bell tutorial

Hi there;)

My busy & creative ladies from Get hooked class asked me if I could show them how to make lace bells as a Xmas ornament…coz its this time of the year again!

I found many beautiful patterns and diagram on the web, tried some and some didn’t look like bells and more like doilies)))))) but I figured that people just use round motifs diagrams and just take 1 or 2 repeats out to make a cone shape. As they say you learn on mistakes;)

After testing and searching I finally found this one… its simple and elegant.

crochet xmas ornament

I remade diagram in color for my class to make it user friendly, took few pics… and its all I needed to wright crochet tutorial for you.

Now you can make your own ornaments to decorate home & tree or it will make a lovely Xmas present { 4 or 6 of them in pretty box } ;)

So here we GO!!!

~ Nina ~ fingerless gloves pattern

Fingerless gloves pattern inspired by ~ Nina and fresh cup of coffee from Blue Shed.

For this gloves I used:

-3 – 4 ply yarn

– 2.5 mm crochet hook

– tapestry needle

~ Abbreviation ~

ch – chain;

sc – single crochet;

dc – double crochet;

sl.st. – slip stitch;

Note:

sc rounds – 1 chains in the beginning of every row as a replacement for sc. Finish each round with 1 sl. st. in 1st sc from beginning of round.

pattern rounds – 3 chains in the beginning of every row as a replacement for dc.  Finish each round with 1 sl. st. in 3rd ch from beginning of round.

~ Pattern ~

1 round – start with 42 foundation single crochet or just chain 42. Join with sl.st to  1st sc or ch  to create round.

2 – 5 rounds – sc in each st = 42 sc

6 round –  3ch, 2 dc into same space as 3ch, *miss 2, 1dc into next st, miss 2, 5dc into next st, rep. *-* till the end of this round and finishing with – miss 2, 1dc into next st, miss 2, 2 dc in to same space as 3ch  from beginning of this round, sl.st into 3rd chain. See picture 1.

1a

7 round – 3ch, *miss 2, 5dc into next st, miss 2, 1 dc*, rep – *-* till the end of the round and finish with miss 2, 5dc into next st, miss 2, sl.st into 3rdch from beginning of this round. See picture 1.

8 – 13 rounds – rep rounds 6 and 7.

14 round  – 3ch, miss 2, 5dc into next st, miss 2, 1 dc. Then to create opening for thumb we will skip 5dc, crochet 5 sc base chain or make 5 chains, and 1 dc above next 5 dc see Picture 2.  Carry on with pattern till end of this round.

15 round – 3ch, 2 dc into same space as 3ch, *miss 2, 1dc into next st, miss 2, 5dc into next st, rep *-* – 6times. See picture 2. Finish with – miss 2, 1dc into next st, miss 2, 2 dc in to same space as 3ch from beginning of this round, sl.st into 3rd chain.

1b

16 – 19 round – work pattern as in 6 and 7 round.

Finish glove by weaving ends with tapestry needle.

In this glove pattern I used crochet stitch “The Fans” from Mon Tricot “500 motifs, patterns and stitches” crochet dictionary.

“The Fan” stitch – multiple of 6 + 4 if work in rows and multiple of 6 if work in rounds.

When I made first pair of gloves with DK yarn I started with 36 ch ;) You can adjust pattern to suite thickness of your yarn, just remember that pattern must multiple of 6.

Flower Motif Scarf

Few weeks ago I bumped into my friend and she told me that she was looking around for colorfull crochet scarf for her friend’s bday. After quick chat we agreed to exchange pics/ideas over email and I said that I’ll look for pattern in my web stash.

I checked my own pattern stash, then I surf web and of course good place for pattern searching – Ravelry;) There I found perfect match … it was hiding in my favorites ~ Free Motif Scarf by Pierrot Yarns ~

motif scarf

This one thanslated in English, but if you can read crochet diargams it doen’t mater what language it is;) This is why I love japanies patterns ~ simple, clear & detailed!

My friend loved floer scarf pattern and asked me  if I could make it for her friend.  Oh Yes, perfect fix for crochet addict – new pattern, colorful yarn and I get paid for this pleasure!!!

I send my friend link to select yarn colors and she came back to me with her choice: Candy, Lipstick, Ivory, Rose, Lilac, Orange and Moss in Premier Natural Cotton  4 ply.  I bought 7 skeins in each color and it took me a bit of thinking to combine all the colors together, because I had more colors to work with and not like it was suggested in pattern.

It was fun and easy project, just one thing that isn’t fun when you use so many colors … you end up with loads of threads to knot & hide! So I’m WaRnInG  You,  there is a price to pay if you choose too many colors … but I guess its all worth it. Look at my final result…

I must say that I’m pretty happy with flower scarf and I really hope she likes it too.

Last day of summer holidays…

Today been last day of school holidays… I can’t believe that 5 weeks flew by. I’m going to miss late morning and routine free days…

Tomorrow is the beginning of 6AMs rises, lunch boxes, driving, waiting, homework and all of that back to school business. But on the bright side…we still have great weather for afternoon beach & walks and of course more creative time for me!

Kids school bags packed, uniform all clean & ready, hair been cut, bathed, bedtime story read and they nicely tucked in beds…Phew!

I’m almost finished in the kitchen… just need to bake 2 loaf of Ciabatta for boys lunch…it was an order ;) P.S. – I’m not super woman))) I have bread machine ;). It helps a lot.

So while bread in the oven…I have time to catch up with my blog and share something with you.

Few months ago I went to building store to buy some stuff for Peter and rustic looking yarn/rope caught my eye… and it was only R10 a ball. Yes, please.

It was lying in my stash basket and I couldn’t think of anything I could do with it. And during summer siesta time I looked at my stash and Ta Da…I knew what I want to do this this yarn… It will make perfect summer sling bag with bright flowers. It took me 2 day (well, I meant 2 siestas) to make it.

I post this picture on FB page and got so many likes and complement…thank you.

It had such a positive feedback, so I would like to give something in return – my Free  Sling bag pattern. Enjoy!

I didn’t include flower patterns, I thought you would like to do your own thing… just let your creativity flow ;) Possibilities are endless…

Happy New Year and Ojo de Dios Mandala

I hope you having a great time with people you love and New Year will bring you luck, light and hapiness!

2013 Moto

~ Live Now ~ Be Kind ~ Share ~ Enjoy ~ Create ~ Smile ~ Laugh ~ Help People ~ Love ~

Its summer here and my boys on school holiday!!! LOVE IT… we having such a great family time… We trying to stay at home, especially this time of the year…people everywhere and its gets a little too crazy for us. Thankfully we live in small holiday village and beach closest to us is huge and it’s doesn’t get over crowded, enough space for every one.

For a last 3 weeks most of our days been in this order:

Sleeping in! Well mostly me, I’m not a fan of early morning and I have to wake up at 6 am most of the year… so this is what my body needs and its getting it))) My boys are early birds… they up and busy from 6 am, but they so good and independent…always keeping themselves busy, making breakfast and letting mama sleep a bit;) Lucky me!!

Beach twice a day…salty hair and lots of vitamin D. We make our way to the beach at about 9ish…before its gets cooking hot; and second session at about 4ish… warm water and gentle sun. Our house only few blocks away from the beach, so we only bring our towels and water to drink…simple. Times of big beach bags with kids goodies, snacks and other things that we mite need (and hardly ever use) is over! Yay!

Mid day siestas! Its too hot outside… we keep ourselves busy around our house  playing, reading, drawing, baking, watch movies or just taking easy and enjoying lazy time!

In the evening we make braai, South African word for BBQ; yummy meal around the fire with sound of waves and night sky.

Life is Good and I feel hugely grateful and blessed! So nice to know that it’s still another 2 week of holidays…Yay!

My creative side also been on holiday, I hardly touched my crochet and my head and hands deserved a little brake ;) I have whole New Year ahead.

But there is something that I made with yarn and would love to show you.

I love mandalas and was searching for crochet mandala patterns on the web…instead I found this – Ojo de Dios or God’s eye Mandala!

Love it! That afternoon I got my colorful yarn and kebab sticks (love to work with what I have at home, no need to go and buy stuff). It was very easy to follow tutorial and I found it very meditative & calming, which is always NICE! So here is my Mandalas:

Our friends invited us for braai/BBQ on New Years day and it was perfect little gift to give as thank you and Happy New Year!

I’m looking forward to make more Mandalas with deferent colour and patterns!

Chevron Waves crochet pattern

Hi again,

My second post in the last few days…I think I’m pushing it))))))

Yesterday I promised to share with you  Chevron Waves pattern! OK girls or maybe even boys…  Get your hooks and yarns ready! Here it is:

Chevron sample

 Chevron Waves pattern

Info:  This pattern written using American Standard crochet terms.

 Abbreviations:

ch – chain;

sc- single crochet;

tch – turning chain;

tr – treble;

st – stitch;

sts – stitches;

rep – repeat;

Multiple – number of stitches required for one complete sequence.

 Formula for this base chain is  Multiple of 11 sts. + add 2( 1 ch for turning chain/tch and 1 ch for even out pattern).

After an hour of trying to do this with my crochet software (I’m new to it) and with no results…I went handmade route! Its not a picture perfect, but its best I could do at the moment…please forgive me;)

1st row – chain needed amount of ch.  Sample – 11 (multiple) x 2 rep + 1 tch + 1 even out chain = 24 chains.

2nd row – 2 sc into 2nd ch from the hook, * 1 sc in each of the next 4 ch, miss 2 ch, 1scin each of the next 4 ch, 3 sc into next ch*; rep from *-*, ending last rep with 2 sc into last ch. Turn

3rd row (crochet this row into a back loop) – 1 ch (tch), 2 sc into first st, *1 sc into each of next 4 sts, miss 2sts, 1 sc into each of next 4 sts, 3 sc into next st; rep from * ending last rep with 2 sc only into last st, miss tch. Turn.

4th row  – 1 ch (tch), 2 sc into first st, *1 sc into each of next 4 sts, miss 2sts, 1 sc into each of next 4 sts, 3 sc into next st; rep from * ending last rep with 2 sc only into last st, miss tch. Turn.

5th row – (crochet this row into a back loop) – 5 ch (tch), 1 tr into first st, * 1 tr into each of next 3 sts, miss 4 sts, 3 tr into each of next 3 sts, 3 tr into next st; rep from * ending with 2 tr only into last st,miss tch. Turn.

6th row – 1 ch (tch), 2 sc into first st, *1 sc into each of next 8 sts,  3 sc into next st; rep from * ending last rep with 2 sc only into last st, miss tch. Turn.

Repeat from 3rd to 6th rows.

I hope you will make something beautiful with this pattern and don’t forget to share your work with me…I would love to see it!

P.S. –  Please let me know if you have any problems with this pattern…its my first try…so mistakes are possible.

Love, Yuli xxx
